About Casement & Awning Windows
Casement windows are hinged on the side and crank outward like a door. Awning windows are hinged at the top and swing out from the bottom. When closed, the sash presses firmly against the frame to create a compression seal, one of the most airtight designs you can buy. Because an open awning sheds water, you can leave it cracked for fresh air even during a light rain.
Casements catch side breezes and suit the contemporary and upscale homes common in Troy, Novi and Bloomfield Hills. Awnings pair beautifully above or below picture windows and work well in basements and bathrooms. Both are a smart part of a whole-home window replacement plan.

The compression seal, Low-E glass and gas fills block drafts and hold heat through Michigan winters.
02
Fold-away handles open windows you can't easily reach, and multi-point locks secure the sash.
03
No center rail blocking the glass means clean sightlines and more natural light.

Combine with picture windows, stack awnings, and choose interior finishes and exterior colors.

How much does it cost to replace a casement window in Michigan?
Casement and awning windows usually cost a bit more than a comparable double-hung because of their crank hardware and hinges. Pricing depends on brand, material, size and trim work. Most casement replacements in Southeast Michigan run roughly $[X] to $[Y] per window installed. You'll get an exact, itemized price after a free in-home measurement.
Are casement windows more energy efficient than double-hung windows?
Generally, yes. When a casement closes, the sash presses against a gasket all the way around, which usually makes it more airtight than a sliding sash. With Low-E glass and gas fills, casements are among the most efficient operable windows you can install.
Can I replace a double-hung or slider with a casement window?
Often, yes. Many openings can be converted to casements or a casement-and-picture combination. We'll check your opening size, exterior clearance and any egress requirements during your free in-home consultation.
How long does casement window installation take?
Most casement replacements take a few hours per window, so many projects are finished in one to two days. Custom orders need a few weeks of manufacturing lead time first. We'll give you a firm schedule before work begins.
What maintenance do casement and awning windows need?
Keep the crank operator and hinges clean and lubricated once a year, and check the weatherstripping each fall. Screens sit on the interior, so they're easy to remove and clean. Vinyl, composite and clad exteriors never need painting.
